Kids Taekwondo & Martial Arts in NE Calgary

Ages 3½ to 14, grouped so your child trains with kids their own age and stage. Confidence, focus and respect — taught by Grand Master Joo-han Cha, 8th Dan and 4-time Korean National Champion, who knows every student's name.

Who it's for

Three age groups, matched to your child

Preschool (ages 3.5–6): Saturday mornings, in three levels from 9:00 to 11:10 am. Classes built on games that secretly teach balance, listening and taking turns. No pressure, lots of high-fives.

Children I–IV (ages 5–9): Monday–Thursday after school — the heart of our school. Real curriculum, belt progression, and the discipline habits teachers notice in the classroom.

Children / Youth V–VI (ages 8–14): Monday–Thursday early evenings — faster pace, real sparring fundamentals, leadership roles for senior belts. The age where taekwondo becomes theirs, not yours.

A smiling instructor kneels holding a kicking target for a young yellow-belt girl mid-kick while other children cheer, a Korean flag on the wall.
Focus, fun and plenty of high-fives — kids class on the mats.

Benefits

What your child gets out of it

  • Confidence that shows up at school — speaking up, standing tall, trying hard things in front of others.
  • Focus and self-control — structured classes with clear expectations, praised effort and earned rank.
  • Fitness disguised as fun — kicking, jumping, agility games. An hour of real movement, no screens.
  • Respect as a habit — courtesy is the first tenet of taekwondo. Bowing, listening, helping juniors.
  • A clear goal — ten colour-belt ranks, then black belt, each with clear requirements. Typical journey: about three years.

Parent FAQ

Common questions from Calgary parents

My child is shy / has never done a sport. Will they be okay?

Shy kids are our specialty. Classes are structured and predictable — the same warm-up, the same bowing routine — which is exactly what hesitant kids need to feel safe. Most "shy" students are leading the line-up within a couple of months.

What does my child need for the first class?

Comfortable athletic clothes and a water bottle. We train barefoot on mats. If they continue, the uniform (dobok) is included in the 3-month Starter — no need to buy anything before the free trial.

Is taekwondo safe for young kids?

Yes. Preschool and children's classes are non-contact — kicks go into pads and targets, never at each other. Sparring is introduced gradually at older ages with full protective gear and close supervision.

How often should my child attend?

Twice a week is the sweet spot for steady progress. Unlimited members can add extra classes whenever the week allows.

Do parents stay and watch?

You're welcome to. We have a viewing area, and many parents of preschoolers stay for the first few weeks. Plenty of parents also join our Family Class and train alongside their kids.

Let them try it. The first class is free.
